Nobody likes to give something unwanted.

That sounds like common sense, right? Why would anyone waste their hard earned money and precious time on a gift the receiver will not enjoy or appreciate?

As a gift giver who cares about the person receiving the present, I want the recipient to appreciate not only the gesture but also the gift.

In reality though, finding and giving a gift that is needed and useful is not always easy. In fact, it’s a lot harder than it may sound.pic of chart of gift challengesWe’ve recently conducted a survey with over 300 respondents focusing on their experience buying and giving a gift to a child (other than their own).

It turned out, that over 98% of gift givers mentioned at least one challenge they face when buying a gift for a child. The 3 main hurdles faced by people buying gifts for a child were lack of time, not knowing what the child has or needs, and the cost of the right gift being above people’s budgets.

None of these responses came as a surprise. I have faced these hurdles myself many times. Christmas in particular is a time when we attempt to buy multiple gifts at the same time, hence time management and budgeting become bigger considerations.

Most people are time poor and budget constrained, as my husband likes to say. And that seems to be case. 51% of people believe they don’t have enough time to find or get the gift they would like to give. Another 36% of gift givers feel that the cost of the right gift is higher than what they are planning to spend.pic of challenges 2

Nearly half of the respondents also mentioned that it’s hard to find something useful when you don’t know what the child already has or needs.

Now that we established what the challenges are, let’s look for a way to overcome them so our effort and generosity can go towards something the child will benefit from.

We believe that parents or caretakers can really help solve these challenges and make gifting a more rewarding, satisfying experience for those giving to their kids.

By sharing gift ideas that friends and family can chip in for, you save them time, keep them within their own budgets and give them the satisfaction of knowing that what they are giving is wanted.

If your friends and family know what to get, great! They will give your child something with a special meaning and that’s all you can hope for. But for those who are unsure what to get, it is great to have those gift ideas handy so they contribute to something desired without the hassle of shopping.

Christmas is a great time to do so as several loving relatives or close friends may be in different locations or short of time. Help them to help your kids. That’s the Purposit Christmas spirit!
